Personality:

Before Uchiha Itachi massacred all the members of the clan aside from his little brother, Sasuke was a very kind, loving and respectful child. He looked up to and adored his brother, whom he was incredibly proud of. The two had a very close relationship, and clearly loved one another.
It’s probably Sasuke’s adoration of Itachi that hurt him so much in the years after the massacre. With his entire family dead, Sasuke had not only to grow up on his own, fending for himself but also he had to deal with his hatred towards his brother, and himself. From then on, Sasuke changed permanently. He trusted no one, and lived a very solitary life, refusing to let anyone help him, and working hard to make sure that he was the best student in the Ninja Academy.

Even when he graduated and became a part of Team 7, he struggled to accept that he needed to work as a part of a team to be able to complete jobs effectively. Even as he joins Route now, he still retains a cocky self-assuredness, most likely because he has had to rely on his own abilities on so many occasions. Although he is able to work as a part of a team, he generally perceives his own abilities to be better than others. During his time with Team 7, he began to treat them as friends and teammates - talking, and enjoying his time with them. This was turned upside down after Itachi was sighted near to the village whilst attempting to capture the nine-tails jinchuuriki, Uzumaki Naruto - a member of Sasuke’s team.

Itachi, apparently disappointed with Sasuke’s inability to beat him - told him that he did not hate him enough, and that he should work harder if he ever wanted to be able to beat him. The short meeting undid all the good that being with Team 7 had done for Sasuke, and he believed that in order to become stronger, he needed not only to train harder, but to learn to temper his emotions.

Whilst training under Orochimaru’s guidance, he became incredibly aloof, and confident in his abilities, and managed to stay calm no matter what the situation, except for in the case of someone mentioning his older brother Itachi.

Sasuke’s maintained the mantra that he didn’t need to kill anyone unless they deserved it, hellbent on taking his revenge on Itachi. However, he eventually became stronger than Orochimaru who intended to use Sasuke’s body as a vessel and Sasuke believed that to give himself up to someone weaker than him would be a slight on the Uchiha clan - something he would not allow due to his pride for the Uchiha.

After killing Orochimaru, Sasuke moved on to chase after his brother, and after a gruelling fight between them both, he finally won. Tobi explained the ‘truth’ about Itachi’s past to Sasuke, explaining that it was the village that had let both Itachi and the clan down. Full of loathing for the village, Sasuke’s priorities changed. He would murder everyone in Konoha to pay them back for the things they had done to his family.

For many years, Sasuke believed the things he understood from his own observations and the things he’d been told. This mentality was tested when he met Itachi again after his brother was brought back to life by the Edo Tensei, and he learnt the truth about the Uchiha Massacre directly from him. Beginning to question everything he knew about the ninja world, what it was to belong to a village, a clan and even to be a shinobi he made the decision to find out for himself. There were many questions that he needed answers to, and he called upon the help of the previous Hokage via Edo Tensei to get some answers.

Now, with an understanding of the reasons why the village could possibly condone an all out massacre of an entire clan, Sasuke intends to do as he feels is right, by Itachi, his clan, and Konoha. He still trusts no one else to get the job done properly, clear by the way that he proceeded to announce to the ninja of Konoha who had only months ago been discussing the possibility of taking Sasuke down themselves as a duty to Konoha, that he is going to be Hokage.
Since then, he has begun working with the ninja from Konoha to protect and save it from the threat of Uchiha Madara, whom Sasuke now understands to be one of the major causes of the village’s ‘downfall’.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Sasuke is very good at hiding his emotions. He can stay calm in most situations, and has the ability to assess them and make a decision based on his previous knowledge and understanding. Orphaned as a child, Sasuke is able to look after himself, which is a blessing and curse - as it also means that he struggles to accept the help of others.

Overconfidence is another issue that Sasuke needs to contend with. At times, it can prove to be useful, as he has the ability to approach a situation and attack it to the best of his abilities. On many occasions it has almost been his downfall, especially when faced with enemies who are far strong than he is.

First Person Sample:

[When the video switches on, Sasuke isn’t even looking at it. He’d been told that this was the only way to communicate with others, he’s not happy about it. That much is obvious by the look on his face, and the fact that even when he starts talking - he barely glances at the PokéGear.]

I was told I’ve been here before.

[Finally, he gives the PokéGear the time of day, looking directly at it. There’s no real emotion in his face, just a pissed off look in his eyes.]

I don’t remember, so stop asking.

Third Person Sample:

As unshakeable as he felt, Sasuke was on the brink of frustration. With nothing but a-- fire, reptile thing with a flame on it’s tail and very little explanation about what was actually going on here, he was suitably annoyed.

His brief information gathering exercise on the PokéGear had proved successful from the offset, and despite his initial reaction to their explanations, hearing the very same thing from various people including the Fourth Hokage seemed to satisfy his belief in the words. It didn’t do much to alleviate his anger toward the situation, and now he had to work out what he was going to do next. Naruto had talked at length about something to do with badges and Pokémon, and something to do with abilities, but accepting all this would take time.
Time, that he decided he didn’t have.

At least not until he saw the reply from him, only-- it wasn’t exactly Itachi as he remembered him from the last time they’d encountered one another. It still his heart and shocked him to his senses, but the decision he made was hasty. If Itachi was in another of these towns, then he would make his way there now to meet up with him. There was no one he would accept an explanation from more than his own brother, whether he was 13, or 21.

Awareness that he is still following his brother is a vague thought in the back of his mind, one that he chooses adamantly to ignore. After everything, Itachi is still one of the most important people in his life. Naruto would only slow him down with his ridiculous explanations, but Itachi...

It took less than an hour to ready himself for the journey. These ‘Pokémon’ battles be damned, he would work out how to get through on his own, and once he met up with Itachi they would be able to discuss this rationally.

And work out a way to get the hell out of here.
